Red Deer stag

A light snow fell in Richmond Park Sunday night. I grabbed a couple of shots Monday morning quick before it melted away. (Our winters aren't very severe in Southeast England!)

This young male didn't have the most impressive set of antlers, but he was considerate enough to struck a nice pose!

All suggestions or comments are welcome.

Good pose indeed! A few steps to the left would have provided some separation between the rump and the tree in the BG, but then again, he may not have let you make a move without ruining the pose.

Nice catch!

I agree with Jim's comment about the tree, but there was no chance of him standing there while I moved. He was way too aware of me as it was. I had placed myself between him and his mates, and this shot was taken as he walked a semi-circular pattern around me to get back to them.

The Red Deer usually fade into their environment, and I loved the way the snow muted - but didn't eliminate - the colours in the background allowing him to really stand out.

Hi Jim

Very nice photo. Agree about the tree in the background but what the heck!

As regards the weather in South East England - I only moved to North Wales to get the nice frosty and snowy winters and we end up being one of the mildest places in the UK!

Good one Jim, nicely posed and the snow works well to make him stand out from the background.

I must get myself down to Richmond Park sometime !

Nice dramatic light you had here. I love the warm tones on the deer contrasting with the cool colors in the background. I think you composed this nicely!

This is one CLASSIC pose, Jim!! I LOVE IT - and the image! The tree and butt...well.. it still works for me!

I've been packing and moving over the past couple weeks, so my particptation has been somewhat lax... but I'm back in the saddle again!

great shot jim..the snow/frost adds sooo much to the photo, at least for me..
i don't mind the tree and the butt..lol
but i'm not sure about him being dead center like that..
i took a small piece of paper, and blocked maybe a 1/6th of the left hand side..and it looked pretty nice like that..

anyways..nice shot..oh duh...the pose...the pose is amazing! you had to have asked him to do that one! lol
