Don't even know what kind of leaves these are, but there stuck in this ice.

Great shapes and details in the ice Mike - I love those shapes. For me, the darkness of the upper right detracts from the shot just a bit. I also wish that upper leaf was laying down more like the other leaves.

Mike: Nice find and a very pleasing comp. As for the leaves, they're frozen! Well done. >=))>

You always pick ice formations that are interesting and have great design, but I like how you placed this one on the diagonal in the frame and the leaves just are icing on the cake. Love it.

Mike....excellent . Like the flowing of the lines and the variation of the ice and the position of the leaves in the image.

Congrats on the well deserved EP. I didn't see this image until I checked last week's winners and this is awesome. I love how the sweeping lines work diagonally through the image! All of the elements in this comp really hold my interest.

Hi Mike,
Lovely shot! I really like the crackled glass look of the ice. I don't know where the shot was taken. I live in the mid-Atlantic area and these look alot like the fruit (not a leaf at all) of Carpinus caroliniana or American hornbeam (aka Musclewood because the trunks are usually slender and sinewous- if that's a word). The fruits are small, not more than about 1 inch long. And the heavy area at the base is the seed while the 'leafy' portion is called a bract.
Congrats on the EP!

Hey Julia, thats very interesting, I'll have to do some research on this. This was shot in Michigan and I'm not sure if the Hornbeam is in my area. Thanks.

Julia is right, I did a google search and found pictures of what I thought were leaves, is really fruit from the American Hornbeam Tree. Thanks Julia.
