Javelina with little one from TNP outing

Another shot from last weekend's TNP outing at Choke Canyon State Park.

Javelinas were everywhere. At times there were probably more than a dozen in the immediate vicinity of the shelter we were staying in. We were fortunate to see two sets of young pigs with their moms. The little guys would run and try to keep up with mom, trying to nurse while mom was eating. They sure do move fast.

This shot was taken with an EOS 1D with 100-400 at 190 mm, evaluative metering -1/3 (ISO 400, f5.6, 1/50), flash at - 1 2/3.
Love that IS! :jump: This was cropped from a horizontal. My main purpose in cropping like this was to eliminate a rusted can just in front of mom's snout. After doing the crop I thought it really showed the relative sizes of mom and junior well.

Thanks for looking. All comments appreciated.

Outstanding - the crop does this image justice! That little guy is a cute little bugger, too!

Everything looks good to me Bruce - great exposure with plenty of sharp detail. Nice work! :toast:

You left off the "Cute Alert".

This is really a cutie. Not often you can come up with something this nice with an ugly subject like a javelina, but this is really something.

The size difference really makes this one stand out.

Nice job.

Good one!!! Those babies were sure CUTE (and I agree with Jim Neely - you left off the "cute" factor! LOL). Excellent choice on the crop for this one - it's perfect!!!!

Terrific shot Bruce. This crop works perfectly for an intimate shot. One of your best in my book. :toast:

WOW, awesome shot. I have never seen an image like this. I have only photographed javalina once. In sunshine, it was near impossible to get light in their eyes. Great use of flash and nice cropping.

A beautiful shot of these porkers. This is the first time I have heard of or seen a picture of this species.

Your square crop of this sweet parent and child is great. I wish there was higher contrast between the subjects and the environment - the grasses feel a little washed out.
