Nikon N60 with Nikkor 28-80, 1/250 f9.5, Fuji Provia, iso 100. Massaciuccoli, Italy; Summer 2002.

The Massaciuccoli's lake is part of Natural Park of S.Rossore and it has naturalistic and cultural importance. The fauna is abundant into the numerous habitats of lake: free wates, cane fields, peat bogs that host ducks, svassi, cormorants, herons and numerous other species; the flora includes rare species as the swampy hibiscus and the sundew. Near the lake there is the villa of the great composer Giacomo Puccini, that now it is converted in a museum open to visitors from all aroud the world.

I like the contrast between the very sharp pier and the foggy mountains. I can hear the strains of "Nessun Dorma" echoing over the water. I would like to see the pier at a bit more of an angle. It somehow seems a bit static straight on.

I do agree with Skip that the angle could be a little bit more interesting to me. I actually wonder if even the straight angle would feel more natural if shot from a really low perspective.

Nice exposure and nice feel in the water. I really like the reflections that are showing up in the bottom of the shot.

I kind of like this one Juza. I like the lighting and mood it portrays. It is definitely a different perspective but I think it works here. A lower vantage point would be worth trying but this one is well done. Nice one.

Emanuele: I like the comp very much and the detail in the boards. I'm not sure about the mountains and sky. I actually like this with the mountains cropped off completely. I don't have any shots like this but this one makes me want to go find some. ><>

Juza, can you go back there? The reason why I ask is I think there are tons of shots to be taken from this vantage point. I love images like these and it looks like you could do a whole lot with this area. As for this image, I tend to agree with Bill as to the cropping of the mountains and sky as then one has a sense of running down the walk and jumping into the lake! The detail and colors in the boards are great! Keep em' coming!

Emanuele,

Great perspective!!! I also have seen many images of this nature and yours is as good as the best of them. With the reflection of the sky in the water, it seems the walkway is floating in space. I'm not sure about the mountains, they seem a little light, especially in the sky. I hope you worked this scene over with many shots, if not there is alway a next time to make improvements.

Emanuele,

Congratulation on Pick of the Week. I new it was a winner the second I first viewed it. I still think there are other images here that can be made under different lighting conditions.
