Travertine Dreams

Another image from my recent trip to Yellowstone. I was drawn to the starkness of the dead trees against the colorful travertine formation of Mammoth Hot Springs

Stephen - this has the same feel as your LF work which is to say - superb - not to slam digital because I am partway there but that equipment often leads in different directions - still rooted in old school I guess - classic image

I agree with Nye. A beautiful intimate composition of an unusual scene.

Wonderful composition! I like the way the brown streaks on the rock mirror the shapes of the branches. Great eye to see this! :toast:

I wonder, was this hard to isolate? So many times in a intimate scene like this something ends up in the frame that doesn't belong, but it looks like you did a wonderful job. Great work!

Outstanding image. Hard to say how it will go large compared to LF but it definitely has the look of it. Excellent!

Best,

Outstanding color & textures overall, but the detail in the burnt sticks is very impressive. :wavey:

A very dramatic image of this dynamic geological area. The stains in the rock gives me a feel of shadow from the branches. Or is it a shadow?? I hope you spent some time zooming in on the patterns and texture in the scene.

Man I love this one. I'd like it even without the wood, but I agree it adds something special to the scene. Tim

My gosh, Steve, this is surreal! And I would've taken this to be a LF image, the way you've cropped it. Are you having similar problems to mine, in that you're having a hard time composing in the "panoramic" format that digital gives you? I still prefer 4x5-in./6x7cm, but don't want to waste sensor real estate and compose short and crop all my images.

Stephen, This is such an awesome image. I know you posted it eons ago but I just had to comment.

The light is fantastic and the colors are right on.

The subtle black traces on the right really make the image.
