I need help on this one. I think this is a Juniper, but I'm not sure. I captured this image in a canyon located in Capitol Reef N.P. last fall. Thanks for the review.

Paul, I'm pretty sure this is a pinyon pine. A wonderful image either way - I love the warm glow.

Guy, it did look awful big for a juniper, but it had the small blue berries on it, which I think the junipers have. If anyone knew I thought you might. Lets see if anyone else can help out here, thanks for the look and the help!

Paul, I take it back then. Blue berries is juniper for sure. Some of them do grow to substantial sizes over their lifespan (some as old as 500-600 years).

Lovely color and light Paul. If it were mine I think I would crop off some foreground...seems to have a bit more impact that way to my eye.

Hey Paul

Nice capture. Like the contrast between the red rock and the tree.

Interesting play of light you have here. I like that. This doesn't all fit on my monitor at once (why do people make these vertical images so tall?) but I'd say a crop off some of the grass might be OK, though the grass is pretty interesting too.

I don't care for the intense hot spots on the sunny portion of rock wall, but I like everything else. Boy, from this distance it sure looks like a pinyon pine, but if it had the little berries, juniper it is...

Very beautiful, paul. I love the texture in the grasses and rocks. The hot rocks look burned out to me, like they've been processed to have some color, but have no detail. Might just be my monitor, but I'm wondering if you have recoverable detail there.

Love the amount of red here - it gives a great mood and ties all the elements well. I think the highlighted wall is just short of being distracting, but is pretty bright. And the tops of the tree are getting a little lost in the BG for me. Very nice shot overall.

And this height only takes up about 2/3 of my 15" laptop monitor, so I appreciate the larger posts. (Or maybe I just use an unusually high resolution?)

It sure looks like Pinyon Pine but probably because it's dosen't have the full, round shape that Junipers often do. I second Lori's critique regarding the highights, which seem burned.

Wonderful image with great light and deep rich colors! I know less than jack about tree identification, but this is a beauty! Only nitpick is the rock-face to the left of the tree looks a bit blown out, but overall a great image! Congrats on the EP!
