Background

I knew these goats were up here prior to doing the Alsek float trip, but I didn't know what the chances were of photographing them. It's a 2300 ft. climb, some of it on pretty steep rock. Fortunately they were there and in a good location. I always figured that goat photography is mostly background, and this is hard to beat. I didn't do any close-ups, and concentrated on getting as much BG as possible in the shots. There were five billies, and I worked with them for about an hour before they went over the edge. There were nannies and kids too, but not in any place I could get at.

Maxxum 7D, 80-200, f2.8 @ meter, ISO 200.

Very impressive image. I really like the way the curve of the glacier is reflected in the curve of the goat's horn. There's lot of energy going on here -- both with the goat and the glacier.

May I simply say Wow,, and :toast:

OK, a little more. I love the patterns in the BG that pull me into the scene and then the goat that holds me in the image. Lots to look at without being busy. Nice work!

Wonderful shot! I love the curves in the background. I know you wanted as much BG as you could get, and I like the shot as is, but also would like it with the far mountains cropped off. It brings more attention to the goat.

The background alone is fantastic, but with the goat, it's just magical.

The bg sure does make this shot. I would like to see the goat a little further to the right, but I understand why you chose to frame it this way. WOW!! :toast:
