Snowy Owl

Last winter there was an irruption of Snowy Owls in the Vancouver area. The last time they appeared before that was about 1998. Well, luckily for us, here is one from yesterday. This may be a juvenile, or adult female - I am uncertain.

1D2, 500mmf4, 2.0X, 1/500 @ f8. ISO320, +1/3EV, mid-morning diffused light, Handheld Mother Brown Duo-pod, almost FF, not skilled enough to clone OOF rock FG

Thanks for looking.

beautiful KC, you don,t have to clone the rock out, its in my opinion not disturbing and part of the habitat of this wonderful bird :toast:

Gorgeous bird! And good photo! I agree the FG rock does not distract.

What a super picture. I love the overall grey colours, compliment the owl perfectly, the distant rock on the top left hand side could hardly have been in a more perfect position and you caught the bird looking at camera perfectly. Best pic on here for ages, wouldn't change a thing. :toast:

Beautiful image ! To me what makes it more interesting is the habitat
sourrounding the prominent bird ( black spot patterns and eyes) in the foreground.

Swwet shot KC! I've been heading out to Ocean Shores to get mine recently but I haven't found it. I can only hope I get something half as nice as this if I do! Rod :toast:

If I made an image that good, I would never have to shoot again.

I am truly moved by this. Thanks.

Thank you all so much for your very kind comments - I feel extremely lucky to have had the opportunity to see such a beautiful bird not just now in the Fall, but also earlier in the year in the Spring.

If anyone is curious about Mother Brown's Duopod, this is merely my two knees clasped together and balancing on my what-do-you-call-it; the IS really is a boon
