Reflections

OK - icon alert if you must - sometimes an icon is just what I need - nothing too creative but an interesting if frustrating morning - clouds rolling in and out - the sweetest light lost in the mist

this is a little assymmetric and I may eventually do a modified crop

once again that nasty old color neg saved the shadows - yeah yeah yeah I already here it in the back room

ebony
nps 160
135 or so

this may be the last new work for a while - getting hammered with an upcoming board recert exam

Works for me! I think the fog on the lake makes the image and parallels the clouds.

Fantastic. I have made up my mind to carry NPS with me this time.
PS: what is 160 135?

PTK: 160 is the film speed of NPS, 135 is what he shot it at, to increase shadow detail.

Nye: Nice image. Perhaps losing the sweetest light wasn't such a bad thing after all.

With the fog it kind of gives it a magical feeling IMO.

This is magical. The far bank looks really tilted. I wonder if it's just the curve in the shoreline though since the trees appear straight.

I think the tree reflections are 1.5-2 degrees tilted CCW. Since the image is a 50/50 reflection, it must be tilted slightly. I don't mind very much though. Honestly, if this is a scan from neg it's one of the best I've seen. Those "old nasty" color negs are not easy scans. The image is absolutely beautiful as are many from those misty morning along the shores of Reflection lake. Long live film.

This image is so quiet and beautiful. I imagine that you wanted different light but you have a stunning photo here with perfect light.

I might crop a smidge off of the bottom, as I like the symmetrical aspect of this, but that's a tiny nit - the mood is so soft and subtle - a winner!

The trees are straight so I think that the shore is receding from Nye's position. This is why it looks tilted. I'd still rotate the image just a touch CCW just to make it less noticeable.

Yo Doc, SWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEET!

Nye,

Excellent! Hmmmm. I have some sheets of NPS. I guess I better start using them, based on your results. Dang.

I can't begin to count the number of times I've stood near this location hoping for conditions just like this. The fog rolling in and partially obscuring the mountain adds a sense of mystery and elevates this shot from the typical iconic view. (The shoreline does work its way toward you from this vantage point so the apparant CW rotation is an illusion; and as others have mentioned the trees are straight.) Looks like your NW trip was a success.

Tremendous atmosphere and a perfectly exposed photograph to show it at it's absolute best. Wish it was mine.

Hey man,

I have seen plenty of "in-your-face" images from this location. But I like the subtlety of this. Its something different, its moody, and its simply sublime! :toast:

Big wow is right! You have a real winner here, Nye. I had very similar conditions last month while I was there. Not sure I came away with anything this lovely, though. Nicely done in all respects!

Excellent! This is outstanding. Actually, I think the mist really makes this photograph. Especially the way it rises on the water, then breaks a little so that one can see the trees and then again covers the mountain. The reflections are sublime too. I have to say , I am in love too.

Nye,

I ditto all the positive comments already. I really like how the reflection of the mountain fits in between the trees.!
Fantanstic...

It looks like you've corrected the slight tilt I mentioned earlier. I will re-emphisize this is a great image. I love the sense of mystery that comes from the faded peak. Though thousands of images have been captured here, this ranks among the best.

Nye, I had missed this until I noticed in the editors picks. It's quite amazing! I could repeat what's been said, but I'd just say, one of the nicer photos posted here for awhile.

I agree- the fog greatly reduces the "icon" nature of the photo and really makes it your own. Well done.
