Clearing Storm

I shot this a couple weeks ago about an hour west of Taos, New Mexico. It had just finished snowing and the wind had to been blowing at over 50mph when I drove by this scene, I immediately turned around and setup a shot from inside my truck getting a meter reading and setting the lens to its widest setting before venturing into the elements. I was only able to fire off five frames before the front element of the lens (actually it was a CP) was completely obscured by melting snow.

Canon 300D
Tokina 12-24
Handheld

Wow that's breathtakingly evocative. It's like the doorway to another country, another age maybe.

Excellent photo, Adam! One of the best I have seen on ESS in a long time. The image says so much about the location and yet leaves a lot open to the immagination.

Regards.

Congrats on a splendid photo! I think the 12-24 mm zoom gives more versatility for us landscape photographers using digitals that used to be for medium and large format shooters.

There really isn't anything I'd change about this :wavey:

Very powerful and moody picture. It makes me feel cold and scared, like I'm stuck somewhere in the wilderness when a blizzard suddenly moves in. Great work Adam!

Filled with mood and mystery, Adam. I'd prefer it with a 4:5 crop from the bottom up, but it's still great as-is.

Fantastic catch; no wonder you turned around. I agree with the 4/5 crop suggestion but there is absolutely nothing else I would change. The light is incredible. This scene makes me feel that there are places where things are still right with the world. It's great you captured a moment in time that can be interpreted differently. congratulations. :toast:
