Preening avocet

by S Govindarajan

Avocet preening before going to roost. Taken last month at the same pond as my last image. The light is due to smoke filled skies from the wildfires around the area.

840mm + tripod, 1/200s@F8, ISO800, full-frame.

Larger version also presented.

Beautiful light, excellent detail and great pose, Govind. You really made the best out of this as a full frame capture.

Looks quite nice.  The reflection adds a lot to the image.

I'm encouraging everyone to start posting on the new NPN site.  If you're not aware of this, read the thread in the Discussion forum  here:

Looking forward to seeing everyone on the new site!!

A lovely pose and reflection, Govind.  There's a slightly odd look to the plumage like it was slightly soft and sharpened to compensate.

Keith: I am not able to login to the new site. I haven't received any information for my account there and my current/ login/password doesn't work. Have all the accounts been transferred?

Dennis: The only sharpening I did was for web presentation (downsizing and sharpening to compensate). Could it be that the avocet has opened its feathers in the neck and breast areas for preening while the others are fluffed up and softer, and that creates a feeling of over/odd sharpening? Here's a full-size version of the same image without any sharpening. Do you see anything odd there too?

Thanks,

Lovely preening pose and nice soft light here Govind, I would be tempted to remove some of the light spots on the water. devil
