I came across these hippos in a side channel of the Zambezi River in Zambia. They were interested in keeping an eye on me and my guide as we approached. I liked their eye contact as well as the background which is different from the more typical river expanse. The egret had been standing on the back of one of the hippos. I upped the shutter speed a bit in anticipation of its taking off. C and C welcome as always. Nikon D 500 and 80-400 lens at 1/1000, f/5.6 and ISO 450. Richard

I like the images of the hippo's in this photo, particularly the 3 on the left, but actually think the egret is a bit of a distraction.  I would like to see this again with just the 3 hippos.  Thanks for sharing.

A very cool scene, Richard.  I really like the way the hippos are eyeing you and I like the layers of background.  My only nit is that the bright Egret against the dark background is something of an eye magnet.

Great capture of these hippos. The flying egret is definitely a bonus.
