Vermilion Flycatcher

I didn't think I had anything for this challenge, but I suddenly remembered some images I took of this bird three years ago.  I posted this at the time, I believe with a couple of cloning variations.

7Dii, 500mm f4 ISL + 1.4TC, tripod with gimbal head, f/9, 1/2500, iso 1250, aperture priority, center-weighted average metering.  Processed in PS6.  Cropped to 11.5 MP.  the cloning referred to above was the removal of a sizable dark branch emerging just at the top of the bird's head and running up in front of the main trunk.  I also cloned over a bright leaf on the right edge and desaturated everything but the bird to get rid of the few green leaves for this one.  Taken at Green Kingfisher Pond in the San Pedro River Riparian Area near Sierra Vista, Arizona at 8:01 am on March 10th, 2015.

Comments and critiques are always appreciated.

Thanks,

Sweet image, and perfect entry for the WC. The red is very effective against the B&W - very nice concept and execution!

Dennis, the flycatcher certainly stands out, with a special thanks to your processing.  This is a good look at the bird in it's habitat.  It's worth noting that any animal that hangs out in "brushy areas" makes for challenging photography.

Nicely done, Dennis.  The red is very effective against the B&W, as Sandy pointed out.  He sure stands out against the brush now.
