Old Woman in the Mist

I saw this old woman on a high mountain road in Bhutan. On this day, we had encountered heavy rains, fog, hail and the occasional falling rocks. Through my guide, I asked where she was going. Her reply was to a village that we had left the night before. It had taken me 13 hours to get to this point from her village. I can only imagine how long it would take her. Olympus E-M1 and 12-100 lens at 1/160, f/6.3 and ISO 320. Richard

Richard, a wonderful cultural rich photo here. Along with the amazing fog portraiture is the story behind the image. I would hope she was merely on her way to get a ride to make the distance you mentioned and not totally on foot......Yikes.....frown

Paul: thanks for the much appreciated comment. Sadly for this old lady, things would only get worse as she made her way to her home village. Not too far from here, she would have to leave the road and trek on foot on a steep, rocky and muddy mountain trail. There were no accommodations along the way either. Richard

I echo what Paul said, a fine cultural image and story.  Hard to imagine her trek, but it shows the contrast between societies. Very few at any age would attempt that here.
