I was coaxed into going to the Detroit Zoo to check out the wildlife photography contest winners and select picks from the British Museum of Natural History.  Afterwards, I was able to check out the butterfly exhibit and snagged this image of a cydno longwing butterfly.  I had to use my on board flash to get some separation from the Bg.  K5 IIs 300 mm f4 (1/180 sec at f8, Iso 400) Levels, Dfine 2 on BG, Brightness & Contrast, cropped 40% off for comp............................Jim

Nice catch of this longwing. Tack-sharp, bright colours and complimentary BG. The crop feels a little awkward to me; perhaps moving the b'fly up in the frame a bit would help, but great as is.
Fine image!

A great catch, Jim.  Love the coiled, pollen covered proboscis as well as the details in the bf and it's perch.

Really well executed, Jim. The BF and perch stand out well. Overall colors and the defocused BG are quite nice. I'm ashamed to say that I never use flash (and honestly I should). Looks like it worked fine for such conditions. As to framing, Sandy has a good point, and if I had to nitpick, I'd prefer a little more room on the sides also. Very nice overall.
