Varied Thrush (M)
by Dennis Plank
I was surprised to still be hearing this species in the little copse of firs where I have my blind and feeding station even after the snow went away. It gives me hope that they might visit the bathing area this summer. I was out a few days ago and getting nothing for quite awhile when the Chickadee in the last post posed for me and then this guy came in and gave me about three frames. Amazing how a couple of cooperative subjects change ones mood!
There were a lot of bright dead grass stems in the background, so I did quite a bit of smoothing over with a semi-transparent cloning brush trying to still keep some grass texture without it being too obnoxious.

I wanted to photograph this species while out west--heard some and briefly got a glimpse with no shot. I'm glad that you got this one and your processing produced a fine portrait of this guy. Well done.............Jim
