Free Hugs

This image was taken on Christmas Day, 2012, as our Zodiac sailed past floating chunks of ice headed for Brown Bluff, Antarctica. What had started out as a questionable landing day because of heavy snowfall in the morning, the sky cleared around noontime and we were given the ok to land on the tuya. This Adelie Penguin stood with wings extended on an ice floe, seemingly undisturbed by our presence, as we maneuvered our way toward the shoreline. It was a thrilling experience and one of the best Christmas gifts I have ever received.
