Hawk Perched

Hi, I haven't been submitting lately.  Not many photo ops with the cold weather, and so today was fairly nice so I grabbed my new Canon 7D Mark II and 100-400mm L lens and went for a walk on our neighbor's farm (have permission).  I think this is a Red-Shoulder Hawk, let me know if I am wrong.  Anyway, I could only get so close to him because of the fence (have permission to go inside too, but just afraid I might not get a gate closed back or something).  So, I had to crop it down to about 50%.  Taken handheld f5/6, 1/1000, ISO 400.  Comments and suggestions are welcome.  I am liking that 7D II.

Definitely red-shouldered hawk Shirley. Very nice for a large crop. Beautiful colors in the hawk, and very interesting perch with a nice complementary BG. Glad you got a chance to go out and about.

Nice job, Shirley.  The detail in the hawk looks excellent and I like your composition.  If you can do it without messing up that cool perch, you might try dimming the background a bit.  That one bright trunk is a bit of an eye magnet.

Really nice job on this one.  Beautiful pose and I like the perch.  With respect to Dennis's comment about darkening the background, you might want to just decrease the highlight slider to see what that does.  That might make it pretty easy.
