Dune Spotlight

This is the last one from my DV trip with Dave.  Lon's comment on Dave's post about how two photographers go to the same place together and come back with really different images is spot on.

Comments, critiques and suggestions are most welcome.

Another hit from DV! I like this a lot, the contrasting light and dark works really well. The central dune looks a tad hot on my monitor. The clouds a re excellent. Lots of drama along with the solitude. Well done, sir!

I really like the spotlight effect on these dunes. How fortunate to be there when the dune opened up like that for you. Your images are indeed very different. David utilizes colors more in his images.

Intriguing contrast between the dramatically-lit bright dunes and the surrounding ground and clouds.  What great experience it must have been to be there when the Sun and clouds cooperated, and you were ready to capture this scene.  I really like the way you composed it so the clouds impart even greater depth, putting the viewer under the same sky you were enjoying.  It puts me into the landscape instead of just looking through the window of the frame.

Another stunning winner, Harley.  I just love the layer of textured sand with vegetation, the clean bright dunes, and the dark background mountains.  Those three layers make it for me.  I like the sky also, and I toyed with the suggestion of cropping it to make it 1/3 or 1/4, but I think Wayne is right that the repetition in the clouds add depth.  A tish more contrast or clarity adj. might even make the sky pop more.

What a fabulous trip yo uhad, and what a nice way to end this series.  I'm  willing to bet, however, that in a few weeks you will find one more keeper devil

What I like most in this image, Harley is the contrast between the bright dunes and the clouds in the shadow. You and Dave made me dream with your images of DV. Hope someday to have the same experience. Thank you.

Another winner Harley!  Sad to learn it's the last of the series.  I'm guessing you have more though... laugh

The beautifully lit dunes are framed nicely by the foreground and bg mountain range.  The sky is expansive and adds to the "wide open spaces" looking landscape.

I was wondering about b&w for some increased contrast in the sky, but I'm afraid the foreground sand/vegetation would go flat since there's little tonal separation at teh bottom.  My only small wish would be to squeeze out some detail in the brighter dune faces. It's faint, but detail can be seen in the larger view.  This one might be a great candidate for a selected use of TK's old Triple Play.

I could also see warming the landscape/dunes up a smidge, but I expect the light was probably just about like you witnessed it.

This turned out beautifully with that prominent spotlit dune making a strong focal point. Processing looks good to me as-is. I initially thought about cropping some of the sky but the more I look at it, I really like the expansiveness and the sense of vastness it portrays.

Harley, I really like this! The larger version is just wonderful to view. I like the layers and that sky worked out great. That light is fantastic! Excellent work! cool
