Bufflehead Hen + extra

I took this one after it landed reasonably close.  This is still a large crop, 35% of full frame.  I like the water in this one.  Overcast conditions.  There would certainly be a lot more detail at lower iso and if closer.

Iso-2500, 200-500 at 500 mm, handheld, F7 .1, 500th, 35% of full frame, D 500, DxO optics lab, Topaz adjust, ACR 10, TK sharpening action at 50%

Detail looks pretty good as presented, David.  Nice pose and exposure, and I like the feel of the water.

We had a few sun breaks today under partially cloudy skies and I had an opportunity to go back and take another few images of the Bufflehead hens.  So this image is just for comparison.

Both images were taken with the duck at approximately the same distance from the camera which I estimate to be about 50 to 60 feet.  So once again a large crop about the same as the original posting.  No need to use DxO optics lab at iso-400 as noise reduction is not an issue.

Iso-400, 200-500 at 500, handheld, F7 .1, 1000th, 35% of full frame, D 500, ACR 10, Topaz adjust, TK sharpening action at 50%

While both are very fine images, I am not sure which I prefer as there are elements I favor in each. I like the color of the water and hen in first, but the sharpness and bow wave (and water droplets) in second are preferable. On my monitor the second is a little bit dark for my taste.

Simply great ! The color scheme and the ripples in the water make for an excellent image. Love it way round devil, cheers, Hans

I like both images.  Thank you for the information about the crop.  There is really, really good detail in this anyway, so you must have done this perfectly.
