Picking a "favorite" photo is difiicult, but for me, the experience in taking the photo is a factor. This was shot in May of this year. It was my first time at Capitol Reek NP, and therefore my first (and only) time in this exquisite and remote area. It had long been on my bucket list, and I found it well worth the trouble to visit, even in a rental car. I camped in the backcountry wilderness campground, and this was taken only 200 yards from my campsite. I was all alone when I shot this, and I felt a sense of reverance for this "Cathedral Valley." So, based on photo + experience, I consider this a favorite for 2017.
I did post this image earlier in the year in the Landscape gallery, but it did not receive a wp. This version is slightly reworked, including being cropped from the bottom. The earlier, uncropped version, with the techs, is in my gallery.
Happy New Year and good shooting in 2018 to everyone at NPN.

6 commentsI really like this one as the best that I can recall of your previous ones. But then it's hard to say that fact as they all seemed wonderful as I reviewed them. To me the Utah & Arizona red clay or sandstone scenes are the very best of our southwestern states desert regions for photo opportunities. And, your fine image here just adds validation to that point for me.
