Tenacious + Recrop

This little pine tree started life in a somewhat precarious position, and seems to be hanging in there tenaciously. This was in San Jacinto State Park near the top of the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway. Canon 60D, f20, 1/25 sec, iso 400, 100-400 ISWL ii, at 100 mm, on tripod.  Thanks for your comments and critiques.

Ed,

Great nature story here and you've capture that story of tenacity very well.  Nature is pretty amazing and resilient - nature always finds a way.

Processing looks great - colors and all look natural.  My only suggestion might be a little crop from the top.  The little rock, encroaching bright stick and the dark UL corner could all be taken care of with a slight crop, leaving the rest of the image to concentrate on the little tenacious pine.

Great find and capture.

Ed, I am always moved by the little plants and trees that take hold in such severe conditions, so I like this image very much. I like the granite rock and red colors of the pine needles on the ground. I might consider cropping a lot off the top, even to the point of making a square image. I don't think the top adds much and a tighter crop brings our eyes to the little tree itself, where you want us to look. Fine work in any case.

A beautiful, natural bonsai. What a great little pine this is. I agree with Cathy's suggestion regarding a crop. The color and contrast look real nice.

Ah, the tenacity of nature. Great eye to spot this, Ed. I like Kathy's crop suggestion as it focuses all of the attention on the story of the pine and it's resilient nature to survive against some tall odds.

If you rotate this image 90 degrees clockwise you get a pretty cool composition? However, it oesn't tell the story.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone. I have cropped quite a bit off the top in this version. Please let me know what you think. Thanks

This is a neat mix of tenacious tree and rocks, Ed.  The mix of colors with the green tree, the dark orange fallen needles, and those golden grasses(??) against the light rocks looks great.  The crop retains all of the strengths even as it focuses more on the small tree.  Well seen.
