Whitebark Pines are threatened by White Pine Blister Rust and Mountain Pine Beetles. Those threats are consequences of climate change; warmer temperatures at higher altitudes are allowing parasites and diseases to infest the trees. Mostly, Whitebark Pines are skeletons in Central Idaho.

This is moonrise on Snowbank Mountain, elevation 8,000 feet.

75% of full frame. Slight noise reduction.

C & C, please. Thanks for looking.

This is a fun (and somewhat spooky) look at these trees silhouetted by the rising moon, Jim.  Getting the moon and the star field nicely exposed in the same frame is quite a challenge, that you've handled well.  If the image noise will let you, a bit of dodging near the top to better show the tree tops would be good.

I like that you have the stars in this image as well as the moon.  I wonder what it would be like if you cropped off the tree on the left, just a thought.  Thanks for sharing.
