RB Nuthatch

I took this today about an hour ago.  It's a dark and rainy day and I caught this Red Breasted Nuthatch on one of my perches before I was even able to turn my flash on.  This is as close to the limits of focus of my 600 mm telephoto so it is essentially full frame with some slight cropping off the left side to help with the composition.  So it is rather tight.  Even at F9, there is virtually no allowance for depth of field when one is this close.  I have 16 inch diameter domes over my feeders.  It is raining so hard right now (with some mixed in snow) that the birds are just hanging out under the domes to keep dry.

Iso-5000, 600 mm, F9, 500th, tripod, no flash, 80% of full frame with the cropping just on the left side, D 500, DxO Optics Pro, Adobe camera raw 10, Topaz adjust, TK sharpening action at 40%

I second Phil's comments. Great image for such lousy conditions. I like the bit of moisture on the tip of the bill.

Excellent color and detail.  Great close-up look at the Nuthatch.  Good background as well.

Sweet capture of this handsome little beauty posing as a nuthatch should. Excellent details, nice perch and complimentary background.

This one is really great David. Nice job with details, BG, perch, the whole package. Especially considering your timing and conditions.

Wow, what incredible image quality and detail given the conditions and ISO5000! I like the pose, the mossy perch, and the smooth background. I could see a crop off the right.

Superb detail and the entire back/face is in excellent focus so you had sufficient dof.  Great pose.

Nice work on this one David. I like the details, pose, placement, etc. I do like this as posted, but I find myself wondering what it might look like if you selectively warmed up the BG?
