Sanderling

I posted another shot of this bird some time ago, but I also liked this one with the sand on its bill so I processed it this morning.

7Dii, Sigma 150-600 C @ 600 mm, hand held kneeling in the water, f/8, 1/1600, iso 640, manual exposure (underexposed by over a stop-my bad).  Processed in LR & PS CC.  Cropped from a horizontal original to 11.1 MP before resizing.  Taken at 7:34 am on April 13, 2017 at Padre Island National Seashore.

Your comments and critiques are always appreciated.

Thanks,

Beautiful shot, Dennis.  I love the low POV and the reflections.  Nicely done.  Sorry I have not been on here lately.  I went up to MD and VA for 2 weeks, and was just so busy that I rarely even got a chance to view the photos.  Got some shots though that I will be posting.

Really nice modeling light, Dennis. However I disagree with your assessment on underexposure, as the whites above the eye are getting pretty bright already. In a perfect world it could be a bit sharper, but still a good effort hand held and with a substantial crop.

I find it is more difficult to get a good shot of these little ones than one might expect even though we can get quite close to them without disturbing them. I think this is a very nice image.  By the way, they are currently moving through the coast on their way south. Am at Long Beach and some large flocks feeding here.

The mud makes it look like a Spoonbill Sandpiper enlightened. Sanderling rank among my favorites, love the pose and light, Dennis ! Cheers, Hans

I really like the dab of mud on the bird's beak, I would crop a bit from the bottom here to make it less squaredevil

Hi Dennis
Nice low angle shot of this Sanderling.  Thank you for the info on the Sigma 150-600 lens.
