Rain Catcher

When I was out on one of those days with alternating rain and fog, I noticed a small orb weaver web with rain drops on it. Since the background was too close to throw out of focus, I set up the extended arm of my tripod close to ground level so I could shoot up and use distant shaded pines as a dark background. As I was focusing, the web's builder (a tiny orb weaver, no more than 3 mm.) came out for a drink. I caught the spider pretty well with one shot, but ended up blending in part of an extra shot by hand to get the legs in focus. The web was more difficult. I made 14 exposures to stack, but the movement of the web from the spider, wind and raindrops forced me to do a lot of corrections after the stack.

14-shots stacked in PSCC, with multiple corrections due to subject movement.
