Shy Tree Frog

This was from my usual spot in Jean Lafitte NP yesterday morning. Calm, cool, dry conditions in soft light were perfect for macro. Unfortunately this was the only one I found worth imaging, and this guy posed for several frames, luckily still active before settling into its usual daytime torpor. Some other poses were better, but the colors and variation of the defocused surroundings appealed to me, although technically not particularly good. I left it full frame with only selective sharpening of the frog.

Great title for this composition.  I think the view from this angle works well to illustrate the resting habit of this little creature.  I agree that the OOF background highlights the frog, but not so much that it spoils the "hiding" effect.  Including the soft parts on both sides makes a nice natural frame, too.

Bill, I agree that the colors and the series of soft and sharp vertical lines looks great here.  I think that cropping to 4x5 entirely from the left also looks good and moves the frog off center to add a bit of tension to the view.

Perfect DOF to guide the eye to the frog. I agree with a crop from the left to 5x4, cropping to square might also work. he green frog against the yellow background works well. Glad you didn't try to clone out the brownish spot on the leaf.

Hi Bill,

Go with the crop as others suggested.  Everything else in the image looks pretty good.........................Jim

Thanks gang. In terms of comp I'm in total agreement, I'd considered that anyway. I noticed a touch of flare over there so I cropped to 4:3 aspect which left part the LH leaf for context. Here's my cropped version.

Yes the repost is even better than the original: the frog slightly off-centre and the left OOF leaf counter pointing the OOF leaf on the right. Very nice.
