This was one of two young grizzlies we were so lucky to see along the road East of Fishing Bridge a few weeks back. I really liked the pose this bear took as it surveyed the few cars that had lined up to watch. It seemed to be cataloguing all of the different smells in the different cars deciding if any were worth the effort to open up a closer investigation. Ours being the convertible, easy open top, we were a bit concerned about the ribs from Dornan's that were left in the trash from lunch earlier in the day. Canon 5Diii, f7.1, 1/320 sec, iso 640, 100-400 ISL ii, with 1.4 TC, at 401 mm, cropped from landscape orientation to more squared, full height of original frame. Thank you for your thoughts and suggestions for improvements.

Hi Ed,

A very nice bear.  My only suggestions would be to try cropping a little of the right if so desired. The bright dandelion seed head catches my eye in the lower right.  The bear looks good--I only saw some in the distance at Yellowstone, so I'm glad you got a very descent look at this one..........................Jim

Ed, I like this shot.  Good catch of the bear in it's natural environment.  Nicely framed by the burned logs that give a real feeling of environment to the scene.  Nice job!

Thank you Jim and Don. Jim, I trimmed out that bright dandelion head in the LRC and cloned out the dead dandelion head under the bear's belly. Thanks for the suggestion.

Great pose Ed, it really makes this picture dramatic.  I love how you captured him with the logs forming an arrow in the same direction he's looking.  I would agree with Jim, the only touch of improvement would be a little less room on the right and more on the left to both cut out the dandelion and give him something to look into since he's looking at a bit of an angle.

Cheers,

Joe

Great vantage point & wonderful pose! I love the fact that color pallette of bear and the logs is same.

Sweet color palette, and I like the composition in the re-post. I wonder why the claws are so worn, especially on the right front paw?

I noticed those worn down claws Jim. These bears did not look very big to me. But maybe they were older than I thought?  Or maybe they are spending a lot of time along the roadways?  Really good question. Ed

I love the pose and the setting.  If cropped details allow, I would add a touch back on our left in order to move the subject a little off center.

Unfortunately I was cranked around as far as I could at the time I took the original. I tried cloning in some additional edge on the bear's right, but it did not look the same.
