Armadillo Chase

I can't say I ever expected to see six-banded (yellow) armadillo courtship in person, but early in my Brazil trip I was treated to just that.  And what it involves is a half dozen armadillos scurrying around chasing each other around open grassland for an hour before sunset.  Here, a female eludes her suitors as they run within a few feet of my lens.  The males would catch up occasionally and try to jump on her back, but that armor doesn't exactly offer much purchase, and she'd easily slip away and run off again.  A fun and entertaining ritual to witness.

Aesthetically, the shot is far from perfect, but I love the story it tells.

Thanks Ken.  I know this animal isn't everyone's cup of tea, but the behavior was too fun to pass up.
