A Trumpeter Swan testing out it's bright new feathers with a short take-off and landing.  It was very low, bright and direct lighting which made for an incredibly high contrast scene.  Controlling the intense white highlights of the feathers and the reflections in the water splashes was quite a challenge.  For those who made comments about the dark background in my other swan photos, this was the same situation and I already lightened the shadows quite a lot.  The water and trees were almost black in the original images.

Sony a6500, FE 70-200 f2.8 GSM with 1.4 TC @ 277mm, ISO-100, f/7.1, 1/4000, hand held.

Hello Gary,.. Hard to combat the light,.... But looks sharp with excellent detail, The black bill does not separate from the dark background, nice water splashing and wings look excellent.

Cheers

Nice action shot in what appears to be difficult light.  The only issue I have with this is that the beak is difficult to see.  Good job on the whites.  Nice detail.  Good to see the environment in which this all took place.

Excellent job bringing up the bg in this one, Gary.  I really like the pose and the disheveled leading edges on the wings.

Good timing in this capture with the wing spread and the spraying water. I also like the setting and the composition with a lot of room for the swan to come into.

Very nice Gary, love the spray of water against that dark background and well composed which is not easy on an action shot like this. devil
