Managed to nab a take-off image fo this Vermillion Flycatcher on a visit down to the Buenos Aires NWR in southern Arizona. I was fortunate to get a good wingspread.

Love the vibrant (vermillion) colour here Kurt, offset against a good choice of colour, red & green work very well in the colour palette and the outstretch wings is really cool. Sounds mad, but next time try f/11 and just crank the ISO to retain the SS you have, the 1DX can take it, but make sure HTP is off, it's not as good as the MKII. Dropping the contrast in the BKG will help IMHO, so it might mean 'double processing' if you have time for a comparison?

Great looking fella-certainly has a tropical feel to it. Nice to see the BG with a little "substance" to it I used to strive for plain backdrops but am going off them a bit(Except for my flowers !!)
Good stuff

<div>Really nice frame of this guy. Great choice of aperture and shutter speed to maintain the sharpness you needed. I see no need for a higher shutter speed or a higher iso </div>

Really cool. The red sure plays nicely with that green background.

Excellent timing, Kurt. The fully spread wing position makes this one for me.

This has an interesting glow. One really needs to look at the larger image in order to see the detail through the orange feathers. I really like the wing position. The light is also quite impressive. I've been trying to get some images like this and I now appreciate the difficulty in the task.

Gorgeous - and perfect techs. I also see no reason to have a higher ISO or SS. perfect as is - congrats on the WP!
