Black-headed Grosbeak

This was shot under overcast skies last week at iso 1600.  This is a crop from a horizontal frame.  A little more of the head turn would be better.  But I'm pretty happy with the quality of the image at this iso.

Iso 1600, 600 mm, F9, 800th, D 500, tripod, no flash, Topaz and TK actions

IQ not bad for ISO 1600.  Definitely needs a little more head turn.  Great background color to set of the grosbeak.

I couldn't ask for better than this. I don't think the head turn is all that important either. Lovely detail, color and lighting.devil

Excellent image quality, David.  A beautiful back side view of this bird-and the back side is more interesting than the fron in this species for me.  Well done.

Beautiful image David!  Wonderful pose, exposure, perch, and background.  Would have been nicer if the head was turned a bit more toward the camera.  I can't help but think that the bird might be a bit over-saturated.  The ones we have here don't seem quite so orange in color.

Hi David
I think the overcast skies help give an even lighting too the photograph and helped with the coloring and detail. Nice work.

This is a beauty David. The orange and green colors compliment each other and made a really fine image.

Hi David,

Very nice.  Sharp with great color.  I also like the tight comp--shows off the feathers perfectly.  Well done......................Jim
