These are present in south Louisiana, but in Bayou Sauvage the Black-crown is much more common.  This is another from 2013 shot from the boardwalk.  The detail is a little soft, and I wish I could have gotten a cleaner comp, but I liked the pose.

I also like the pose on this image.  The water is amazing.  But you took a risk when you shot this at 1/13 of a second.  The softness is probably due to feather motion even though the bird probably didn't even breathe in the 13th of a second it took this shutter to move.  The eye and the head appear to be certainly sharp enough; the soft areas are just below the eye on the face and at the upper breast.  I'm sure you've tried localized sharpening but I would be very happy with this in my portfolio.  We've got more Great Blue Herons, a rare Green Heron, and a rare Bittern in the Puget Sound region; and GreatEgrets come as far north as southern Washington.

The detail looks pretty good to me, Bill, particularly the eye which really stands out nicely.  I also like the metallic sheen of the water-it makes a really nice background.

Yes the water has a great look to it. I don't normally go a lot for reflections but this one seems to work ok.
Something slightly different -- I like it.
