Although these are common birds, I do like their markings and color.  I caught this one in a rainstorm yesterday.  The crop might be a tiny bit tight but it is full frame and a place where Photoshop can't really do much to add because the complexity of the perch.  I've cut back both the red and green saturation here which gets overemphasized in the rain.

Iso 800, 600 mm, F9, 400th, fill flash at -2, D 500, full frame, Topaz and TK actions

Superb, David.  You really nailed the finch and that perch is just plain gorgeous.  I processed a purple finch in much the same pose a couple of days ago, but my perch looks very shabby compared with this one!  Excellent dof.

David, common or not, this is a beautiful bird captured well! Great sharpness throughout against the beautifully blurred background. Upon close inspection, I even noticed the few water droplets on his back. The only thing I would do here is clone out the little bit of something sticking up off the top of the bird's neck.

Gorgeous shot, David.  Such great detail against the smooth background just makes him stand out.  Outstanding shot!

This has such nice complimentary tones David. I love the detail around the eyes and the mosses. Nice work toning down the reds and the greens a bit and I see nothing wrong with the crop as it is here.

Beautiful, David!  Colors and clarity are exceptional and all the details in the bright colored moss are just about as interesting to look at as the bird!  Great shot! devil

Got a winner here David. I like the perch and the background. I would pull back on the overall saturation just a touch if it were mine.

Great detail throughout.  The contrasting colors really make the finch stand out.  The perch with the moss and lichen is a nice addition.
