Prothonotary Warbler

Prothonotaria citrea

Most of the Warblers migrating to the North have passed thru and it is really slowing down here. The Prothonotary Warblers are here for the summer. A very common warbler here in the midwest. Probably a little higher ISO and more shutter speed than I needed, but these little warblers move fast.

Wonderful bird, on a nice capture, Matt.
Nice perch and I liked the contrast with the bg...

One of my favorite warbler species. Nice to get one in such an open setting. A nesting species in NJ where I would seeit every year, but I've only seen 3-4 strays here in AZ over the years. This seems a little over saturated, but I've not had much time with them in over 25 years so maybe I've forgotten.

Thanks for all of the comments.

Richard, I reduced the saturation a bit on this warbler, I would say this is pretty close to the actual scene. They get an ever so slight red tinge to them during breeding. They are one of my favorites as well. In the area I photographed this one, there were dozens of them. I have never seen so many at one time. The area is a mixture of wetland and mature forest, ideal habitat.

Matt, this little guy is gorgeous, and you captured him so well.  Great color and detail in the feathers, with a  nice background.

Really superb job on the color and detail here.  I think the saturation levels are just perfect.  The only thing I could wish for would be a little more separation between the beak and the background.  But that might be difficult to do.  It definitely looks a lot better in the larger image.  Beautifully placed in the frame.

Excellent capture with great detail and colors, Matt!  That's a strange name for the Warbler that I've never heard before.  Very nice!

A lovely shot of a species I have yet to successfully photograph. The color palette is especially nice.

Hi Matt,

One of my favorite species too.  Colors are perfect and the BG is awesome as well. A little more separation between BG and the bird's bill would be an overall improvement.  However, I would leave the image as is because that's what nature gave you for the image.  Well done..........................Jim

Matt, you are on a songbird roll.  Another great species, well captured.  My only suggestion would be to provide a more interesting and attractive perch if this is a setup.
