Uinta Ground Squirrel
by Mark Seaver
This Uinta ground squirrel (Urocitellus armatus) was giving me what for as I looked for possible scenic views in Yellowstone. When it climbed up on this gnarled stump, I had to take it's picture. (7D2, EF100-400 f4.5-5.6 @ 400 mm, 1/200s, f/11, iso 200, tripod)

I like the ground squirrel a lot, but I'm going to go with the others and say the "gnarly" stump adds a ton of interest to this shot for me. From my perspective this shot feels like a bit too much of the natural "sunny day contrast" has been removed (presumably with shadow/highlight tools or their equivalent), especially on the squirrel itself.
Cheers...

About as "gnarley' a stump as one would ever see
