Chiseled in Stone

This is from a stone in the Chinese Gardens at the Huntington Library and Gardens in San Marino. They are undergoing a msajor construction project to add to an already amazing Chinese Garden. I understand each stone and each block has been crafted in China, disassembled and then reassembled by the same workers here in the US. I tried briefly to look up this symbol, but I could not find it. I really like the curves and the colors. Hope it is not too bright as it was taken in midday. Canon 60D, f9, 1/2500 sec, iso 400, -1 EV, 100-400 IS at 400 mm, HH, 90% of original frame.

Perfectly well lit, Ed, as far as I am concerned - the deep shadows bringing out the form of the symbol nicely.  I really like the background textures of the stone too, which maybe you've softened a little to emphasize the symbol ?  Do wonder, though, if they would take some sharpening.  Whatever, I like this a lot.

I believe you did great with midday lighting.  The soft colors and curves of the symbols are in contrast with the harsh but delicate markings in the  stone.  You captured it well.  Amazing story line too.  Thanks for posting.
