The Gossips

Purple Martins always seem to be talking about something or other.  In this case, the one on the right had just landed and it looked to me as if the one on the left were catching her up on the happening in their little community (six gourds and 14 birds-we're still trying to figure that one out, but we've counted multiple times).  Please accept my apologies for the blatantly man-made perch-replacing them with something more aesthetically pleasing is on the to-do list.

7DII, Sigma 150-600 C @ 600 mm, hand held, f/8, 1/1600, iso 1000, manual exposure.  Processed in LR & PS CC.  Cropped to 16.3 MP before resizing.  Taken at 7:47 PM on May 9th.

Comments and criticisms are always appreciated.

Thanks,

Hi Dennis,

They are yammering about something.  There's a scandal afoot in the martin house. Looks pretty good and no nits from me...........................Jim

Hi Dennis, sweet looking subjects and I don't find the man-made perch ugly, it works for me and in keeping size wise with the subjects. I do again feel the image is under exposed a fraction. I would try a third of a stop extra on the Exposure, up the Shadows (not ideal) to bring more detail out from the dark wings. The light looks soft which is again nice, but a tad more Saturation would really elevate the whole image IMHO.

Definitely looks like a lively discussion among the Martin family.  I like this interaction.  I like the lighting although the bird on the left is a tiny bit dark around the eye region.  Detail is really superb.  And nice to get both birds in focus.

Both birds look very sharp and the interaction is cool. The light is nice too.
