Lemonade

When fate gives you lemons...  In this case it was a trio of Green Herons at the Leonabelle Turnbull Birding Center yesterday that insisted on landing on the boardwalk rail at barely minimum focus distance and refused to land on a more suitable perch.  So I figured I should at least get a decent head shot out of it.  I did get some looser shots too, but I think htis tells the story better.

7D2, Sigma 150-600 C @ 600 mm, hand held, f/7.1, 1/200, iso 1250, aperture priority, pattern metering, -1/3 EV.  Processed in LR & PS CC.  Full frame.

Comments and criticisms are always appreciated.

Thanks,

A very nice image.  Sometimes these close-ups tell more of a story than to see the whole bird.  I might prefer a slightly lighter background to accentuate the bird's colors..

Looks great, Dennis.  The details and colors are outstanding.  Getting some good Green Heron shots with Mike was one of my goals, but the Greenies were very uncooperative...

Very nice detail. The colors of the heron are beautiful, I like the background as it is but making it lighter might make the bird stand out more. Nice work!

Love the crest on this profile view. Those brown feathers almost remind me of fur, interesting. I find that many times when I go out to someplace to photograph with a preconceived idea of what I'm going to shoot it doesn't happen but always something unexpected presents itself which is every bit as neat. Which just means one has to get out there and they'll find something. How was your recent trip to the Platte? devil

Wonderful detail and color however I also agree the background could be a little lighter.

Awesome detail in this portrait Dennis. It really pops against the background.
