Young Jaguar II

Here is another shot of the young male Jaguar that we followed along with his mother for about an hour on our Pantanal, Brazil tour.  This is almost full frame, just a small crop from the left, it was a privilege to be se so close to this magnificent animal.

I'm surprised to hear it's a young cat.  Though the body's not thick, it certainly looks fairly mature, especially in the face.  I like the pose, Nate, especially with the raised tail.  Great look at a beautiful animal.

Love the dynamic pose and the placement in the frame!
Would have preferred lesser DOF but ypu were shooting with F 4 lens.angel

Thanks Max and Jagdeep, Jagdeep I don't see how less depth of field would have helped here, I wouldn't have been able to get the whole Jaguar sharp and the background was right behind the animal so it still wouldn't have been blurred out.

Hi Nate!
What I meant was that if bright, sharp grasses in the BG were slightly diffused, they would have probably enhanced the image. Or you may possibly do that in processing.

Very cool, Nate.  It must have felt pretty good to have this on the other side of the lens.  devil

Love it Nate! The pose says it all. Love that curviness. The light is good. No complaints here.

Cheers,

Hisham.

Nate: wonderful composition and pose and you can really sense the power of the cat. Nice that it formed a diagonal for you cool Richard

If I had been taking this, I probably wouldn't have been able to get it this sharp.  I would have been shaking too hard from the excitement of this rare sighting.  I like the shot as it.  Great capture of this rare opportunity.

Hi Nate,

Must have been a great experience. I like the diagonal flow of the shot.

I agree with your comments about the scene not permitting any real separation of the subject from the background (given its proximity to the cat) regardless of the aperture it was shot at.

Cheers...

A gorgeous cat and a very nice capture of it, Nate!  I wouldn't change a thing.  The large version puts you right there next to it.  Almost a little too close for comfort!  Very nice! devil
