Valley Oak-WC

These great oak trees in California's central valley are at their best in winter without leaves when you can see all the tiny branches, like veins, against the foggy sky. I added some color with Nik Color Effex.

Thanks in advance for any comments or critiques.

I never thought I'd say it, but it would be okay with me if the rain stopped now. angel  We do have some beautiful Oaks here, and you found a great scene.  Nicely done.  I like the almost sepia look to this one.  Makes me wonder what California might've been like 200 years ago.  devil

Beautiful, Kathy.  I love the forms of oaks and you did this one full justice.

The sepia tone gives this majestic tree a dark, gloomy feel.  Maybe out of a Harry Potter thriller.  The fog provides a great background that highlights the silhouette of the many branches.  Good find.

The fog allows your subject to stand out very nicely from it's neighbors, Kathy.  It does have a great shape, especially with all the little branches at the tips.  I think the color adds some interest, although I was wondering about smog vs fog until I read your description.  Reading the other comments gets me wondering what a sepia toned b&w version would look like.

I love seeing tress like this with all the branches against the sky.  I like the fog and I like the color that you added.  Very nice, Kathy!

Just a classic depiction of a valley oak Kathy. Like everyone, I love the tiniest branches/twigs on the periphery. My only nit on this as a photograph would be the darker areas on the bottom edge. It seems to me that they might be better quite a bit darker to match the silhouetted tree.

Beautiful old tree in it's element Kathy. Love the warm colors in the fog here, and the silhouette of the tree is exceptional.

Congratulations on really nice work and well deserved WP.

The character shown by the old oaks when the leave fall is great.  This is cool with the fog to add diffusion.
