The Black Hole

It has finally turned to winter here in Hessen, Germany, which means that we finally had the chance to get out and explore one of my favourite motifs: Ice! It was also the first chance to get out with the new SIGMA sd Quattro-H (with its APS-H sensor) ...

In this particular case, although I made every effort to ensure the camera was absolutely vertical, I was still quite close to the ice so I closed the lens down quite a bit just to be sure ... The image has so much detail that the larger version has had to be saved with quite a low quality setting wink ...

SIGMA sd Quattro H, SIGMA 180mm Macro, F18, ISO 100, 1.3 sec.

I also really like ice abstracts, Mark, and this one is terrific with lots of nice lines and shapes. It looks a little strong in terms of blue  color for my tastes, but that's obviously subjective. The detail is excellent.   devil

Wonderful abstract, and I think the color adds interest, as does the black hole. The varieties of ice patterns are endless, it seems. I haven't seen such curvy lines before.

Mark... this is a neat piece of work, a fine abstract. Love the composition of the thirds that you have used here.
New year greetings !!

Mark, This has a mysterious feeling. I like the swirly curves and the small bubbles. Nice abstract!

Geez, Mark, as I made my weekly picks, I discovered that I hadn't commented on this image.  That's hard to imaging since ice abstracts like this are a favorite subject.  Sorry for being so late.

The lines here have a wonderful swirl plus I like how they lead my eyes to the hole.  The blue tones add a fine sense of cold.  Very well seen.
