Canyon Textures

Here is another image that I took from the Grand Canyon.  I was drawn to all of the different textures and color in the contrasting geology in this area of the canyon.  This was taken when this part of the canyon was in even diffused light.  I also like the emerald color in the Colorado River that is visible from this location.

As always all comments and critiques are welcome!

Capture Info:
110 mm
f/11 @ 1/30 sec.
ISO 100

Processing Info:
TK's luminosity masks, vibrance masks, and cloud sharpening low-pass filter.  Also color balance adjustment to remove some cyan cast in the shadows.

I have never gotten good pix of the Grand Canyon, so this is a very compelling image to me. I appreciate the lines, textures, jagged rocks and the equal light illuminating even the deepest part of the canyon.
Very nice!

Very nice, Brian. The green "S" curve of the river makes a great focal point in the image amid the red rock. I might suggest using a gradient or other method to burn down the background slope at the top of the frame to bring the luminosity closer to the foreground hills.

Really nice Brian.  I think Dave's suggestion is a good one. I love these more intimate images of the Canyon.

A different GC image, Brian, which makes it good right off the bat. I like the use of the s-curve in the river. Well done.

Brian,

This is fascinating and unlike any view I've seen photographed around the Grand Canyon.  Great eye to compose this; the longish focal length really is compressing things here and taking away context.  Also, the way the bg slopes it really makes this deceiving because I so badly want to say this needs to be leveled out! But of course it doesn't, that's the lay of the land.

Here's another case of the original and large views appearing slightly different. This view, the smaller original seems ever so slightly more saturated.  And I would have commented on that, but in the large view everything looks spot on.  So there's that.

The large view is a real treat.

Hi Brian,

This is a nice view of the area, but I would like to see more of the river, but I also know that we make the best of what we see. I know you have done that here because it is a very nice scene. I like the idea of balancing out the luminosity in the bg and fg suggested by Dave. The image does have some nice lines in it, but I would like to see a bit more from the composition. I guess the middle ground could be a bit stronger for myself.

What do you think of this image Brian?
