Great Egret Portrait
by Dennis Plank
One way to beat the fog is to get really close. This Egret was most accommodating that way, so I decided it merited a few portrait shots. This was my favorite.
7DII, Sigma 150-600 C @ 435 mm, beanbag on car window, f/9, 1/800, iso 800, aperture priority, pattern metering. Processed in LR5 & CS6. This really was the way the bg came out except that I cloned over a teasel head growing out of the Egret's back. Cropped to 15.7 MP before resizing. Taken December 21st at 10:32 AM in the fog at Ridgefield NWR.
Comments and criticisms are always welcome.
Thanks,

3 commentsReally good portrait. The contrast between the white and the bg is beautiful.
I personally don't feel any need to "bat" the fog as I like the way it minimizes elements and simplifies the composition. We get very few foggy opportuniteis here in the mostly arid Phoenix landscape, but when we do I like to be shooting distant subjects.
