Leidig Meadow

I'm posting this image not because I think it's a terrific image, but because of the connection I get of the times and many images captured in Yosemite Valley.  The image is also a good summary of the valley with how the meadow meets the grandeur of the granite walls and how the forest of black oak, pine, cedar and cottonwood define the transition.

But it's more than that. This was the first time I had ever viewed this meadow from the eastern edge. All the times have been spent starting out on the west end, the far side of this view.  So many chilly mornings of frost and rising mist have been spent here, but the perspective had always been looking east.  We normally park in those line of trees (where Northside drive runs) and walk eastward in to the meadow.  Many of Harley's foggy/misty meadow images were captured here.  I can see literally a dozen or more images within this frame that I've captured over the years from the intimate grasses, to the frosty-leaf, charred trunk images to the black oaks in winter dress.

Anyway, there's a lot to this for me which of course don't translate to the viewer - at least not without the story. Regardless of my connection, I hope this captures a little bit of the story of Yosemite Valley and like the wider view of the rock wall in the Merced canyon, a little perspective and context of the valley proper.

Thanks for looking and as always, comments and suggestions always welcome.

Thanks for sharing the background. I can personally relate to having a specific landscape "speak to me".

As for the image - this is a very fine pano, Lon. The larger image really shines vs the thumbnail, and I expect a large print would be needed to truly appreciate the details and various textures. The layering and splotches of vibrant foliage add a lot of depth and interest, and the warm rendition is beautiful. Well done.

Beautiful view of one of our national treasures.
This site can't show panos very well, but I'm certain this would make a stunning wall image.
The different elements to explore, the fall colours, and the rock wall, all with excellent detail, are exceptional.

Familiarity and knowledge of a location is a huge plus in getting good and different images of it, which is evident in your photographs from here, Lon. I enjoy seeing the big, pano view here. It's a fine pano of the meadow, trees and granite wall with beautiful late fall color.

I think that this image really succeeds in creating a sense of "hugeness". It emerges from the size contrast between the (large) trees and the humongous wall. Gorgeous - and the story too!

Looks like Leidig Meadow. sad It is always a fine view, although it now might be just a bit more crowded?

Superb panorama.  I only wish I could see it stretch across my entire monitor.  This captures some of the magic of Yosemite.  And one realizes what an incredible resource it is.

I like how this image conveys a sense of the scale of the granite walls.  The autumn color contrasted with the evergreens is beautiful.

I've never been to Yosemite......no wonder all you guys like it!!
What really strikes me about this image is that huge rock wall back there.  Those of you who go there frequently are probably used to it, but in this image it really stands out.  Neat.

Lon, I now this is a special location for you.  I hope to see you there in the next three days when this place is covered in white.

Thanks Jeffrey, Yes, I see snow is predicted this week!  As much as I'd like, I don't plan on going.  First, I've been off work for the last 10+ days and so will be busy returning to work.  Second, I was there last New Year's weekend after a snow....  It was a FRICKIN ZOO!  More people in the valley than I'd ever seen!  The pullout in front of Bridal Veil? Parking on both sides right? Cars were double parked, parking lot style and there was ONE lane of traffic down the middle.  Crazy.

If you go, enjoy the snow!  Remember, they've rearranged North and Southside drives so that there is two-way traffic from the El Cap crossover.  And you can't get from Yosemite Village to the Lodge or Falls unless you walk, or drive all the way around back over the cross over.
