Great pose and a glorious perch, Sandy. I can see why it's a favorite.

re-named the "short-tailed" eagle.
Not as colourful a name, but certainly descriptive - barely a tail to be seen, either perched or in flight.
The flying eagle was VERY far away, so the image is not high quality, but a good example

"Bateleur" it was, and as far as I am concerned, "Bateleur" it remains. The origin of the name is from the French for a street performer or acrobat and was applied to the bird for its agile aerial tumbling displays. The taxonomists have wreaked havoc with many of our birds' names in the supposed interest of aligning them with those used elsewhere. They appear to have forgotten that we have rigid scientific nomenclature for that very purpose. In my view they are over-employed. Apologies for the rant, but we all thrive on local flavour and do not need global homogeneity.

Sandy, what an amazing bird of prey. I can recall seeing documentaries on these guys and they are wonderful creatures. The main part of the scene, the bird, is absolutely excellent.
I might be inclined to do a content aware on the overhanging branch just to see how it looks being removed. I guess if the left loop in the branch both top & bottom or tree trunk were there it might not look so disconnected up there. But again, a simple test to see how it would look. Excellent image......

Quite the look at this amazingly colored bird, Sandy. The details in the original post are great, especially the weathered tree that it's perched in. I like the extra branch at the top as it provides some extra sense of place but feel that there's extra empty space on the right.

Beautiful bird and great detail in both perch and bird, Sandy. Well done!
