Cooper’s Hawk (Accipiter cooperii)

Place: Phoenix, AZ
Date: December 4, 2016, 3:10 pm
Equipment: Nikon D7000, Nikkor AF-S 70-300/4.5-5.6 VR @ 195mm, hand held
ISO 900, shutter priority matrix metered, 1/125th @ f/5.3
Raw, PS CC on Mac, 65% of frame

In the companion image I posted three days ago I was asked if any of our Cooper's Hawks actually tried to bathe at the water feature. This was taken a minute later than the previous post with the same gear through the same dirty patio glass.

Honest critiques requested; all comments appreciated. Large version provided as always.

This is even better than the last image.
Love the wing position, fine detail, and behavior.

Very cool, Richard.  As a bonus, this view  provides a wonderful look at the plumage on the sides and under the wings.  The head looks a touch soft, but going much below 1/125th hand held would really be pushing it.  Excellent behavioral image.

What a great experience watching this Hawk at the bath.  I like the sense of action here, with the raised wings.  While I see a local Cooper's make passes at the feeder birds regularly, I've never seen one approach my ponds.

Quite good for shooting through a window handheld at 125th.  I like the look on it's face.
