Experiment

I bought a bunch of flowers to photograph a few days ago (species unknown-they came from the supermarket) and put them on the kitchen table until I got around to photographing them.  Yesterday, I noticed that the chandelier over the table created really interesting multiple shadows on the wall.  Due to the geometry, I couldn't get an angle to shoot the shadows there, but today I moved the onto a stand and put a piece of white foamboard in line with the shadow.  I was able to get a reasonable line that way without getting my shadow involved.  While this looks like it might belong in Photo Art, the only digital manipulation was making it B&W and filling in the edges using the content aware function.

More conventional images of a single bloom are on their way.

5DIII, EF 70-200 f/4 @ 70 mm, tripod, f/16, 0.8 sec, iso 500, aperture priority, pattern metering.  Processed in LR5 & CS6.  Taken at 10:20 AM today.

Your thoughts on this idea and its execution are most welcome and appreciated.

Thanks,

Interesting Dennis!  Not sure why, but I like it!  Would like to see the color version just to compare.  Thanks for sharing.

Dennis, I see 4 shades of gray. Not really my cup of tea, although I suspect the color version will prove to be more nuanced and interesting.

I've come back to look at this several times, Dennis. I've decided that I like it.  It reminds me of an image produced via some other medium, like x-rays or something. I like the effect, and I particularly like the way lighter shadows appear to mirror or replicate the darker shadows but successively lighter. The image looks a little cut off at the bottom but I can't really say why that should matter. Well done.

Dennis: Nice step out of the box. Of course if this is a shadow there won't be any color. I think this is well seen and nicely executed. 2 thumbs up. >=))>
