RIP 'Bankey'

An old Rhino named Bankey, aged about 49 years, I happened to photograph this Nov. only, died on 30th Nov. due to old age and injuries caused by other dominant male Rhinos. He was founder member of Rhino introduction program in the Dudhwa National Park.
It was such a privilege to watch and admire him. He probably had the longest horn, ever seen on an Indian Rhino.
Thank you so much for your views n comments!

Hi Jagdeep,

I like the pose and the center comp works very well.  The large version reveals shadow detail which is not apparent from the small view.  I think your portrayal of Bankey is excellent and am glad that he was able to survive to old age in a perilous World.........................Jim.

Jagdeep,
That certainly is an impressive  horn.
I may have seen him when we visited Dudwha in August 2005, but my images are missing.

Hi Jagdeep,

For me the centered composition works just great here - love how this icon seems to be "barreling down" on you. The standard view here doesn't do justice to this one - the larger version is definitely a "must-see".

Cheers...

Excellent capture of this dignified elderly gentleman. Very good detail in the larger view. Perfect use of a centered composition.

I like how asymmetrical his expression is, with one ear up, one down, eyes different levels, mouth active and bent...all giving him a sense of rugged character.  Great that you have this as a sort of memorial to an old warrior!

An awesome portrait of handsome fellow in its habitat. Love his skin texture.

Jagdeep, what a magnificent fellow.  And you're right, that seems like a very impressive horn for an Indian rhino.  It's nice, I suppose, to hear he died of natural causes rather than going the way of so many of his cousins these days.
