Morning Black Oak

Our group was hanging out in the morning sunshine in El Capitan Meadow when we saw the lovely light on this Black Oak, and the visible blue of the background walls. The contrast between the warm leaves and shaded walls made an interesting, and irresistible, combination of color and tonality.

Hey Preston,

I clearly remember this morning, in fact I have a similar image that ended up in the round file... ;-)  Yours is a beauty.  The back/side lighting really lights up the leaves of the black oak.  I like that you've left some space up top faintly revealing the granite walls in the background.  I recall our observation and discussion about the bg color - and how blue it was.  I think you've tamed down the blue from what we observed, but this works just as well - no one will tell you to tone down the blue... enlightened

I sent you a note on this, but at least to my eye the oak trunks look little on the green side.  Maybe it's just me.

I like how you isolated this tree and grouping of brilliant fall color.  Nice!

The lighting on the oak is spectacular and the yellow leaves against the blue shaded walls works perfectly, Preston. The details really shine in the large version. Wonderful job on this beauty.

Nice bold colors and I like the blue background. But I am left feeling like it is too tight on the sides, a little cramped to my eye. ?

I like the gold and blue color palette in this image.  As you mentioned the light on the tree is spectacular.  The lines from the branches lead my eye around the frame.  I don'the find it to be cramped on the sides.

It's hard to get tired of these oaks, particularly when you have the lighting conditions that you captured here.  Very nice work.

Preston, I like the contrast of this scene. The dark oak trunks, golden leaves and gray/blue of the rock wall have all worked beautifully together. Very nice!

I would remove the rock wall entirely and let this be a composition of curved dark branches snaking through the gold. It's the presence of the background that gives this a cramped look.

I think this is one of those images that needs to be printed out big, just so you can see all the details!
I like the color and light, I just think that if it was REAL big, you could look right inside it.......
Nicely captured.
